A Word from the Word
When we explore the Bible’s teachings regarding the concern God has for the poor we discover that we all belong to a compassionate Kingdom big enough to include all the lost, oppressed, haggard, hungry, homeless, and dispossessed. As Christians we have all the resources we will ever need to releave the burden of the poor.
The Bible gives us a snapshot of a God who is deeply moved by the poor. The prophet Isaiah contrasts Isreal’s religious life with what God considers a truly righteous life. In chapter 58 He describes their tithing, sacrifices, keeping of the Sabbath and such as, the wrong kind of fast. What God wants, says the prophet, is true fasting, demonstrated in these behaviors: “To loose the chains of injustice and untie the cords of the yoke, to set the oppressed free and break every yoke. Is it not to share your food with the hungry and to provide the poor wanderer shelter, when you see the naked to clothe him, and not turn away from your own flesh and blood…”
Oh yes, God has much to say about His concern for those who live impoverished in our midst. At this site you can learn more about the Bible and how to live a Godly life.
Perhaps you will learn to give more generously, share more readily and live more simply.
This truly is the “Road Less Travelled.”
